Your army collides with the Roman infantry. The weaker Hispanic and Celtic infantry buckle under the superior heavy infantry of the Romans and gradually lose ground as the battle drags on. However, the veteran African center is much sturdier due to their experience against Roman armies. This proves ineffective against them due to the Roman infantry’s numerical superiority and heavier armor. Despite the efforts of the Africans the Roman center breaks through into your line. The remainder of your army is now split, forming two separate wings and exposed to attacks from both the front and the rear. In order to salvage your forces you can order your two wings to fall in on the Roman center, which is now in-between the two, and attempt to cut a path past the Roman army. Additionally, you can order a full retreat and attempt to cross the river to your rear. Roman soldiers cannot pursue past a river due to their encumbering armor but the chaos of a full retreat can lead to other complications.
