moment as a general. It was this battle that cemented Hannibal’s reputation

fear of Hannibal grew and with the capture of Cannae decided to take action. In

tact. Through a series of well made tactical decisions Hannibal completely overwhelmed
the Romans, the second highest death toll in Roman history occurred here.
You are Hannibal, son of Hamilcar Barca. Following Carthage’s defeat in the First Punic War your father set out to improve the conditions of Carthage. He led an expedition to the Iberian Peninsula. You begged to go along with him and in response your father asked you to swore to forever be an enemy of Rome, an oath you gladly accepted. Although initially successful, Hamilcar drowned in battle with the Iberians. Following his death your brother took command of the invasion. You were elevated to a position of officer. It was here that you gained your first experience in leadership. Unfortunately, your brother was assassinated. This left you as commandeer of Carthage’s army. You spent two years expanding your holdings until the day you took your army and crossed the Alps. Your invasion of Italy was going extremely well. All battles under your command ended in victory. The Roman people greatly fear your reputation as a cunning tactician, placing you in almost mythological stature. The war was costly for the Romans, their great defeats and near destruction of their army on several occasions and your conquest soon led you to the supply center of Cannae. It is here that your story takes place.
